Three graphics from Mize's High Point articles that encapsulate three trends she articulated.

Today, Nick welcomes a special guest to The Chaise Lounge: Jaye Anna Mize vice president of creative for home interiors at Fashion Snoops. She’s returning to the show and will return again to chat about trends in interior designs, what to look for on the horizon and why clients seem to want what they want.

Sustainable Branding

People are increasingly thirsty for transparently sourced products that come with stories attached. Mize says consumers want to know where their stuff comes from and what impact it has on people and on the environment, so designers need to have this in mind when specifying pieces. That way, when a client asks why a couch is the couch for them, the designer can have an answer ready that the client can then tell as a story about the piece.

Colors of the Future

Fashion Snoops is forecasting a near future of vibrant, saturated color. After a long period of neutral and earthy colors, Mize says the trend is poised to snap in the other direction with people craving exciting colors in their spaces along with accents and accompanying colors that keep these big colors from overloading a space.

Fashion Snoops is going back to High Point in April, and you can visit HighPointMarket.org to read Mize’s writings about the trends she had in mind for last High Point Market. Beyond the physical, growing awareness of mental health is inspiring individuals to reflect upon the whole state of their being. Everyday spaces, objects, and materials are reconsidered in terms of how they affect our minds, bodies, and souls. For example, when considering seating, we may find that lowering our center of gravity and surrounding ourselves with rich, soothing textures helps us feel physically and mentally grounded.
