Today in The Lounge, Nick chats with Phyllis Harbinger from Harbinger Design Consulting. The two get down to business about competition in the digital world with Phyllis.
Where Will Your Line Shine?
So, you’re a designer with products and options that need to live in a space. If you’re going to have lines to represent, consider how you want to display them. There are more options than you might first realize: open a showroom, start your own brick and mortar shop, find a vignette space in a larger showroom, or become a stocking dealer. Nick and Phyllis go into more depth about the pros and cons each come with from rent and insurance to collaborating with other merchants and vendors.
Competition in the Digital World
The market is continuously evolving, and you’ve got to keep up if you want to run a successful business. Think about it, where would you be if you still only used Yellow Pages to market? Take time to understand your target markets and how to reach them best. In 2018 there are vast amounts of resources available to contribute to your business, so take advantage of them!
Set Yourself Apart
Keep in mind, finding a niche and something to set you apart is about more than just your designs. Having excellent customer service, creating project books, doing extra things on the side, and hosting events are all ways to add value for your clients. Doing these things will make you memorable, and someone people will want to work with again or reference to a friend. What do you have to offer?
