Background 1

Today on The Chaise Lounge we talk about running a business with a family, something that I feel most of us can relate to. Juggling four kids and a successful interior design empire is something that John and Theresa Dorlini do everyday out of their home in Roanoke, VA. The focus on organization is critical, John states that sometimes days are planned out to the hour. Communication is also key, from morning lists for employees to follow up emails and text for clients, everyone being on the same page as helped shape Circle Design Studio.

John and Theresa started Circle Design Studio in 2006, they choose to office out of their 400 square footage design space with four full time employees so they are closer to their four children. Circle Design Studio does both commercial and residential design and architecture. Before John and Theresa started Circle Design Studio they were students both receiving degrees in interior design. John also has a master of architecture. They worked for different companies learning and taking in all the knowledge that they could. They also had done some fix and flip work for a non-profit which showed the construction and structural element of design as well. John, who is now a licensed architect, interior designer and contractor, takes the project manager role while Theresa focusing on the design element. Playing to each other strengths keep Circle Design Studios running to the highest abilities.

I loved this podcast as John and Theresa share the reality of creating and running a business and making your family priority. This is a challenge for many and so inspiring to have a couple share the nitty gritty of combining the love of work and family. Great show and best to Circle Design Studios!
